Bond-Wide Action
Collier Construction of Brenham, Texas was selected as the Construction Manager at Risk by the Board of Trustees during the August 2007 Board meeting. Collier Construction will provide pre-construction input on issues related to the cost, constructability and schedule for the entire bond-wide program of work. The design team, led by Bay Architects, has completed all of the necessary Construction Documents. Bidding for all four projects occurred during Spring 2008 and all projects are now under construction.
Rockdale High School
This project will add approximately 78,000 square feet of new building to the existing Rockdale High School.

 The new plan will feature an entry approach that is centered on Childress Street. A tall rotunda will accentuate the grand approach from the outside and serve as a circulation hub on the inside. The new gymnasium will be positioned to the east side of Childress Street and the classroom wing will be positioned on the west side of Childress Street.

 The new school will also feature a new Career Technology building located on the easternmost portion of the site. The new facility will feature three classrooms, support spaces and a 4,100 square foot shop and will open for the fall semester of the 2008-2009 school year.

Rockdale Intermediate School
This project will feature a "ground-up" construction of a new Intermediate School on a site adjacent to Highway 79. The design will encompas approximately 73,600 square feet of space.

 The new site allows for convenient vehicular circulation. The parent drop off section is three lanes in width and is separated from the bus drop off area to avoid comingling of large busses and smaller personal vehicles. A new road that will connect the school to Highway 79 is planned to improve access and visibility for the school. A covered entrance greets users and will provide a dramatic interior day-lit corridor.

 The floor plan for the new Intermediate School makes efficient use of space by combining functions in the cafeteria / gym / stage area. The stage will be used as a music room through the use of movable acoustic walls. Similarly, the cafeteria and gym will be separated by a movable wall to allow the formation of a large event space. Student security is addressed by requiring all visitors to pass through the main office before entering the classroom area. Work on the Intermediate School began in May and will be complete for the start of the fall 2009 school year.

| Rockdale Jr. High School
This project will expand the Jr. High campus by 9,500 square feet.

 The proposed plan will add six standard classrooms, one science lab and a computer lab to the existing Jr. High School. The project is smaller than the High School and Intermediate School and because of this smaller scope will be completed in February 2009. |

| Rockdale Elementary School Cafeteria and Kitchen Renovations
This project will increase the capacity of the kitchen.
|
|
 The Kitchen will be expanded to include two serving lines, an expanded dry storage area, a new cook line, a new food prep line, new cooler / freezer and utensil washing area. Seating for 285 students will be provided after the renovation is complete. Work on the Elementary Cafeteria and Kitchen renovations will begin in May 2008. The dining area will be complete for the start of the fall 2008 school year with the kitchen soon to follow.
